Lesson #5

Lake Anatomy

Objectives:

  1. Students will be able to use the information from this section to make notes about each part of a lake.

Materials Needed:

Activity:

Students need to log onto www.kidfish.bc.ca. and click on the "Our Lakes" icon. Students then need to click on "anatomy of a lake" in blue print

Option One:

On the worksheet provided, students will pick out the important information given for each part and use their note taking skills to record notes in the proper format. This could be done individually, in groups with each group focusing on one part to share with the rest of the class, or as a class.

Option Two:

A Jigsaw. This is where students are divided into a home group of four people. Each person in that group chooses one part of the lake to become an expert in. Students then move to their specialized group where they become experts for their section. Once in the expert groups, students read together and discuss the important features for their part of the lake to take back to their home groups.

After everyone has become an expert on their topic they return to their home group to teach the group about their part of the lake. Once everyone has shared their expertise with their home group, everyone will be familiar with the whole anatomy of a lake. As each expert shares students record the information on Lakes Worksheet #S-5.
