Graphing

Objectives:

1. The student will be able to make a vertical bar graph from data gathered about Fishes maximum length and weight.

Materials Needed:

• Computers
• Fishes Worksheet #M-1a (Data chart)
• Fishes Worksheet M-1b(Graphing - length)

Activity:

Hand out the "Fishes Worksheet #M-1a (Data Chart)". Next the students need to get the data for the graph. This information is found under the enlargements for each fish. To get these enlargements click on the icon of the fish. Students with internet access at home can do this for homework. Those that cannot get onto the internet at home or at school can get the data from someone who has been able to get it.

Hand out "Fishes Worksheet #M-1b(Graphing - length)". This has everything laid out. Depending on the grade level and experience some teaching may need to be done to show how to construct the bars.

Next the students can do a bar graph on Maximum Weight. This can be done on graph paper where the students need to lay everything out, label, etc. The graph already done should serve as a guide.
