Writing Ideas

A) Writing Topics:

The following can be presented as Journal topics or for composition where the whole writing process is utilized:

1. My favourite fish story
   
   
2. The big one that got away
   
   
3. If I could talk to a fish
   
   
4. If I were a fish for a day
   
   
5. The tales of "Walter"
   
   
6. "Help, I'm just a little fry"

B) Comic Strip:

Have students create several fish characters. Encourage them to pick from different species. Have them design a comic strip which shows an adventure that occurs among these fish.

C) Newspaper:

Create a class newspaper on a fish theme. This project can be a lot of fun. Examine a newspaper for its sections (news, sports, entertainment, horoscopes, comics, etc.). Discuss these sections. Then give examples of what a newspaper story might look like from a fish's point of view. (eg. Pikeminnow Gang attacks Trout Children). Break the class into groups and give each group a different section to be responsible for. Group according to talent and interest (artists can do the comics and the "photos" for each story, The writers can work on the stories, athletes can work on the sports stories, etc.)
