Aquatic Fish Food
Science:

Lesson #2 (Gr. 5-7)

Create a board game that reflects the development and hazards experienced by one of the Aquatic Fish Foods

Objectives:

  1. The student will be able to find information under the various categories presented in the "Aquatic Fish Foods" section of www.kidfish.bc.ca
  2. The student will be able to create notes on information that will be useful in the creation of a board game about a "critter" in the "Aquatic Fish Foods" section of www.kidfish.bc.ca
  3. The student will be able to create a board game that simulates the development and hazards experienced by the "critter" of their choice

Materials Needed:

Activity:

Divide the students into groups. Since there are eight "critters" written about in the "Aquatic Fish Foods" section, it would be ideal to have eight groups. Whether each group creates one game a piece or if each student is responsible for a game of his/her own is the choice of the teacher.

Hand out the "Aquatic Fish Foods Worksheet #S-2". Mention that the chironomid is presented as an example. Each group will have to research their own critter and decide what is needed on the game board.

Each group will be responsible to print a copy of the information they need from the Aquatic fish Foods section. Each group can then discuss what should appear on a game board for their "critter".

The students then can proceed to create their game boards either individually or in groups as has been decided by the teacher.

Set a date that the games must be completed by.

Plan a games afternoon, where the students get to play the games that have been produced by others.
