First Nations

The First Nations peoples look at fishing differently than sport fishermen. This is because fish have always been a very important part of their lives, a staple food and the key to survival for the First Nations peoples of north Central British Columbia.

The First Nations Perspective looks at the importance of fish in the current day as well as in the past. Here, members of the Carrier Nation share their knowledge and beliefs about fish and the important role that fish has always played in their culture. We'll learn about traditional methods of catching and storing the fish, and about modern day fisheries management.
