Lesson #2

Explore the Mean, Mode, Range and Median of climate patterns of a British Columbia city.

Note: This is actually a Math lesson, but since it is dependent on students finishing the Social Studies lesson on climagraphs, it has been kept in the Social studies section.

Objectives:

  1. The students will use the information from their graph to find the mean, mode, range, and median of their data.
  2. Students will access the Ministry of Environment Website to find their data.

Materials Needed:

Activity:

Discuss with class the concepts of mean, mode, range, and median. Do examples together until the class feels comfortable.

Using the information from their graphs have students determine the mean, mode, range, and median for the precipitation and temperatures of their chosen city.

Have students record their data on their worksheet.
